The Palisades Virtuosi, now officially in its fourth season, was formed by three musician friends (Margaret Swinchoski, flute; Donald Mokrynski, clarinet; Ron Levy, piano). Quickly exhausting the existing repertoire for that configuration, they subsequently embarked on a continuing program of commissioning new works. To date, they have been they recepient of over 20 compositions.
Ron Levy had enjoyed a long and rewarding professional and personal relationship with Richard Lane, and is the dedicatee of numerous compositions. In 2003 he introduced Richard Lane to Ms Swinchoski, who was delighted to receive a gift of the lovely flute concerto, which she premiered with the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra of Paramus, N.J., USA).
In 2004, Jean Geisler (a friend of Richard Lane and a patron of the Virtuosi) commissioned a trio. In August, Richard Lane's friends were shocked by the news that he had suffered a stroke on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he was vacationing and working on the afore-mentioned trio; he passed away shortly afterwards. Eventually the manuscript of the two finished movements was delivered to, and premiered and recorded by the Virtuosi (Troy #826; Albany Records).
Ron Levy, January 2007.
