Townscape was composed for the centenary of the St. Cecilia concertband from Oudenburg, a town which also inspired the composer throughout this work. The first part depicts a train slowly approaching from afar and then vanishing into the distance again. This is rendered by a sort of repetitive pulse in the music. This is followed by some serious action with jet skis on the Sinnesael lake. Their spectacular twists and turns are transformed into an exuberant theme and a middle section with several changes of time signature. After that comes a restful, lyrical Nocturne, a musical painting of the mill at night. The work concludes with a lively finale that is an ode to dailylife in Oudenburg, a place where people take initiative and there is plenty to see and do.

Townscape werd gecomponeerd ter gelegenheid van het 100-jarig bestaan van de harmonie St. Cecilia uit Oudenburg, een stad die ook doorheen het werk als inspiratiebron dient voor de componist. Het eerste gedeelte schets een trein dietraag vanuit de verte komt aangereden en ook weer verdwijnt. Dit wordt weergegeven door een soort repetitieve impuls in de muziek. Dan volgt stevige actie van het jet-skieen op de Sinnesaelput. Het spectaculaire draaien en kerenwordt vertaald in een uitbundig thema en een middengedeelte met een aantal maatwisselingen. Hierna volgt een rustgevende, lyrische Nocturne die de molen bij nacht muzikaal schildert. Het werk wordt afgesloten met een levendigefinale die een ode is aan het leven van alledag in Oudenburg waar initiatief getoond wordt en veel te beleven valt.

Anlass fur die Komposition von Townscape war das 100-jahrige Jubilaum des Blasorchesters St. Cecilia aus Oudenburg (B). Die Stadt Oudenburg war dafur auch eine wichtige Inspirationsquelle des Komponisten. Im ersten Teil schildert er einen Zug, der langsam am Bahnhof vorbei fahrt. Dies wird durch ein sich wiederholendes Obstinat in der Musik betont. Nun beschreibt er eine wilde actionreiche Jet-Ski-Szene. Das schnelle Hin und Her wird in der Musik durch Taktwechsel und ausschweifende Themen beschrieben. Danach folgt eine ruhige lyrische Nokturne, in der die alte Dorfmuhle besungen wird. Die Komposition endet in einem lebendigen Finale, eine Ehrerweisung an Oudenburg: eineenergische Stadt voller neuer Initiativen, und wo es immer etwas zu erleben gibt.

La premiere partie esquisse un train qui arrive au loin, lentement, pour disparaitre a nouveau, reflete par une sorte d''impulsion repetitive dans la musique. S''en suit l''action puissante du jet-ski sur la fosse de Sinnesael. Les tours et retours spectaculaires sont traduits en un theme frenetique et une partie intermediaire avec de nombreux changements de mesure.Vient ensuite une Nocturne lyrique apaisante, depeignant en musique les moulins dans la nuit. L'oeoeuvre setermine enfin par une finale animee, veritable ode a la vie de tous les jours a Oudenburg, ou l''initiative est mise en avant et ou les experiences a vivre sont legion.
