By The Carpenters. By John Bettis and Richard Carpenter. Arranged by Helping You Harmonise. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 6 pages. Liz Garnett #3664793. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856159).

I was surprised to learn that this song was originally intended only as an album cut, but when country singer Lynn Anderson's cover was a hit, the Carpenters also released it as a single.

This arrangement of the classic Carpenters feel-good tune was commissioned for a mixed quartet of three women with a male bass. This allows it to sit in a mellow tessitura for the upper parts, nurtured by the warmth of the male voice in its middle, most relaxed part of the range.

The arrangement is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written)

Vocal Ranges:

Tenor: E flat 4 - C5
Lead: F3 - B flat 4
Bari: A 3 - G4
Bass: B flat 3 - C4
