In the musical world, the sounds of the flute and those of the majority of percussion instruments are not the closest of kin. Despite this difference in sonic quality (or more likely because of it), numerous interesting and effective compositions have been written for this combination.

I. A Chance Encounter II. A Walk in the Clouds III. The Flux of Reality Commissioned by The Armstrong Flute and Percussion Duo In the musical world, the sounds of the flute and those of the majority of percussion instruments are not the closest of kin. Despite this difference in sonic quality (or more likely because of it), numerous interesting and effective compositions have been written for this combination. Analogies are often helpful in relaying the characteristics of a piece and, to that end, the following narrative offers a more human interpretation to the sounds of the work. An unexpected encounter brings two dissimilar spirits together for the first time. The initial lack of semblance gives way to the discovery of things in common. The newly found attraction brings on a peaceful, somewhat hypnotic state that seemingly shows no sign of conflict. Although the relationship remains congenial and supportive, such fleeting idealism eventually gives way to the complications and unevenness of everyday existence - Lynn Glassock.
