Composed by John Powell. Arranged by Amir Reiter. Contemporary,Film/TV,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 85 pages. Amir Reiter #703282. Published by Amir Reiter (A0.1114119).

“This is Berk” is the opening track to the film How to Train your Dragon. It starts during the opening logos, setting the tone for the whole film before a single word has been spoken. As the DreamWorks logo is wiped away by ripples in the water, Hiccup (the protagonist) introduces the audience to his world of dragons, Vikings, and the city of Berk. The tone of the piece starts soft and mellow, but quickly shifts as we see the first dragon attack on the village. The mix of excitement and calm make for a thrilling musical piece. The Concert Band arrangement is a slightly simplified version of the orchestral piece, nevertheless, it preserves the power and awe of the original score. Even without strings, this piece captures both the delicate and forceful elements of John Powell’s soundtrack. This arrangement is designed for an experienced ensemble with strong low brass, trumpet, and horn sections. There are a multitude of solos on a variety of instruments throughout the piece, as well as both woodwind and brass features.
