The Star Spangled Banner the national anthem of the United States of America since 1931 is set to a melody written by the British songwriter John Stafford Smith. The lyrics were written by Francis Scott Key after he witnessed the bombardment of U.S. Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. The unique arrangement by Mark O’Connor for unaccompanied violin appears on his Sony Classical release "Midnight On The Water". The music is suitable for the advanced level.
