This arrangement for solo piano is suitable for church, school, and patriotic events, as well as the recital hall. (In the early twentieth-century, some concert pianists began their U.S. programs with The Star-Spangled Banner.) The arrangement begins with a straightforward harmonization of the opening measures of the song before moving into more demanding material. Advanced students and professional pianists should enjoy performing the arrangement, which includes various technical challenges such as chromatic passages in third and rapid left-hand octaves. The arrangement also contains unexpected (and lovely) harmonic and thematic development.
