The Playetudes, pronounced like “platitudes”, are playful, light-hearted musical concoctions designed to help advancing violinists become more fluent, flexible, and relaxed in their playing. The two volumes present seven pieces based on humble folk tunes and a few are based on great music. My apologies to Schubert for borrowing his great piece, “The Trout”!
All the pieces are crafted to improve overall violin technique: shifting and the balancing of the left hand on the fingerboard; developing smooth, clean, well-timed string crossings; and gaining increasing connectedness between left hand and right hands.
The chord symbols are included, as some students might be interested in learning to improvise. It will soon start to become clearer how to arpeggiate any melody just by playing these-but please: start each one by learning and hearing, deeply, both the melody and the harmony parts of the duet-with your teacher!
