A set of variations on The Last Rose of Summer by Friedrich Kuhlau, arranged for flute quartet by Cassie Lear. Kuhlau first composed this work for flute and piano in 1829. The Irish poet Thomas Moore wrote the poem "The Last Rose of Summer" in 1805, using the traditional tune "The Young Man's Dream," first transcribed by Edward Bunting in 1792. The tune has since been used by many composers, including Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Britten, and countless others.
