The Joy of the Lord is one of about half a dozen original compositions I started during the infamous 2020 Covid lockdowns. I ended up focusing mostly on finishing this piece instead of the others because it brought me joy to work on it. These lockdown measures have been extraordinarily difficult for those of us for which public performance is such a large part of our income. And the sad thing is, as of today (I'm writing this on 11/14/20), we are not out of the woods yet.
So yes, composing and then recording this jazz trumpet quartet helped me keep my mind and my heart focused on God's goodness. Thus the title, The Joy of the Lord!
