George Gershwin (1898 - 1937) was an American composer, best known for his work crossing the genres of classical, jazz and light music. His work in the genres of musicals and films was extremely successful. Gershwin's works received much more appreciation and recognition after his death, which was at a young age. The medley The Great Gershwin incorporates music from various light compositions (Summertime on the other hand stems from his real opera, Porgy and Bess).
