Composed by Richard St. Clair. A Cappella,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 21 pages. Richard St. Clair #5998021. Published by Richard St. Clair (A0.939853).

This 7-minute unaccompanied motet for SATB choir sets the first ten verses of the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5, sung in Latin. A translation is provided in the score. The general style is simple choral counterpoint, completely tonal and full of deep feeling. The text "Beati..." (Blessed are they) is always set with rising octaves in points of imitation reminiscent of 16th century vocal style. The final or 8th beatitude breaks open into doubled bass part, with secondary dominant harmonies bringing the motet to a stirring close.
