Composed by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Arranged by Charles Decker. 20th Century,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,Spiritual,World. Brass Band. 201 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #789828. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.1190215).

This brilliant, tour de force arrangement for brass band is guaranteed to inspire performers and excite audiences as it captures the energy of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's 1911 orchestral showpiece. Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer,  conductor and advocate for Black composers. Originating in Africa and developed in Haiti, the Bamboula was danced for festivals and ceremonies. The 11 minute arrangement has an optional cut to make it seven minutes and is scored for British brass band instrumentation of E-flat cornet, B-flat cornets, flugelhorn, E-flat alto horns, baritone horn, euphonium, trombones and E-flat and B-flat basses with parts sets in treble clef except for the bass trombone. Optional brass instrumentaion is provided with substiute F horn parts for the E-flat alto horns and bass clef parts for all the low brass. The recording is of the entire edition.

“The Music of Black Composers Series is a welcome and timely addition to the brass repertoire. Interesting music, expertly arranged, and well received by audiences. Highly recommended!” Wesley Nance, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Eastman School of Music

“I was so pleased to see the great works arranged for brass ensemble by Charles Decker Music Press especially the Music of Black Composers’ Series. It was especially rewarding to perform several of these with Summit Brass and with the students attending the Rafael Mendez Brass institute. You provide the brass world with some real gems.”  Joseph Parisi, Director Summit Brass, Fountain City Brass Band, University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory Wind Ensemble
