Te Deum laudamus 4-Part - Sheet Music
SATB choir, a cappella

SKU: C5.5107

Composed by Calvert Shenk. Text: Liber usualis. Great use of chant and SATB alternation. General. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.5107).

Calvert Shenk uses the chant setting (Mode III, Tonus simplex) of the traditional hymn of thanks, "Te Deum laudamus," as the basis for this work. Unison chant phrases alternate with choral passages to create a beautiful "antiphonal" effect. The choral sections are scored for SATB or SA or TB in both homophonic and polyphonic styles. Mr. Shenk's superbly rich choral writing gives us a piece of practical value. While not dazzling or flashy in mood, it remains, because of its text, a work for a festive occasion. Ideal for communion time, it might also be appropriate as prelude or even as a rather unique recessional, accompanied by the pealing of the church's tower bells. Every choir should become familiar with the ancient chant setting of the "Te Deum;" it is quoted frequently in organ and orchestral pieces because of its historical importance. CNP's setting by Calvert Shenk can bring the chant version to a new level and broaden its appeal for choristers and faithful alike.
