The composition is built around twomain themes, which express the audacity and noble character ofGawain. The varied harmonies and orchestrations of both themesreflect the many layers of these courtly qualities. Both themes cometogether towards the end of the work to form a stately closing.

Met Sword of Honour zet Tom De Haes de ridder Gawain van het hof van koning Arthur in de schijnwerpers. De compositie is opgebouwd rond twee hoofdthema’s, die de strijdvaardigheid en het nobele karakter van Gawain uitdrukken.Beide thema’s komen in diverse instrumentgroepen muzikaal tot uiting. Als climax komen ze bij elkaar; samen vormen ze een waardige afsluiting.
