Composed by Sergei Taneyev. Arranged by Jeff McKeehan. Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. 27 pages. Jeff McKeehan #5968569. Published by Jeff McKeehan (A0.930851).

Sunrise was originally composed as a choral work. It takes us from the still of night, just before the first hints of dawn, and carries us on a powerful, joyous journey to the bright promise of a new day. It's truly a breathtaking work in the Russian Romantic style.

Chorus members of a certain age may know this piece as "Sunrise in the Orient", with English lyrics translated from the original Russian.

The piccolo descant part may be omitted. Bass flutes may be divided between the bass and contra parts if desired.

Sergei Taneyev was a brilliant composer and music theorist. Tchaikovsky regarded him as both a close friend and a trustworthy critic of his own compositions, and sought Taneyev's feedback on a regular basis.
