By Artie Shaw. By Hoagy Carmichael. Arranged by Linda Dalgliesh. Jazz. Score and parts. 15 pages. Linda Dalgliesh #3892219. Published by Linda Dalgliesh (A0.803621).

STARDUST is a melody written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1927. The lyrics, describing nostalgic memories of young love under a star-filled evening sky, were added by Mitchell Parish in 1929.

Since its first recording in 1927, STARDUST has been covered by many artists including Nat ‘King’ Cole, Django Reinhardt, Glenn Miller & His Orchestra, Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond, Etta Jones, John Coltrane, and Frank Sinatra. It has been recorded and performed by Willie Nelson, Natalie Cole, Rod Stewart, Harry Connick Jnr, and Michael Bublé.  Nat King Cole’s version featured in the 1993 movie Sleepless in Seattle.

In 2004, Hoagy Carmichael's recording from 1927 was one of fifty recordings chosen by the US Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry.

This arrangement for String Quartet emulates the romantic yearnings of 1950s orchestral arrangements; bittersweet harmonies and tender cadences. It consists of a score (7 pages), and individual parts (each 2 pages).  The key is F major.  Duration is approximately 5’00
