Look no further for a fresh approach to Spirituals
ISaved me in a pinch when looking for an appropriate piano piece to include on a recital on short notice...An accurate description: Carter keeps the level of difficulty to a moderately easy level, each setting provides plenty of interest with Carter's use of creative rhythms, fresh harmonies and compact form.; this collection of spirituals present these melodies in an absolutely lovely setting which experienced jazz aficionados will both enjoy and appreciate, particularly church musicians.

Spirituals for the Piano
Really enjoying the titles in this book. I am an intermediate pianist and play for my Church and find these songs appropriate for Preludes, etc. John Carter writes so that people of varying abilities can play the music without much difficulty. I also have his song book Hymns for the Piano which is commendable to others.
