Sonatina for Two Violins by Jindrich Feld (born 1925) was written between 1952-1953. The composer dedicated the piece to his parents, who, as he often says, introduced him to music's secrets. Shortly before his death, his father, professor Jindrich Feld (violin teacher and professor at the Prague Conservatory with whom Feld studied violin and viola) made an instrumental revision of the piece. The composition was premiered by Josef Vlach and Vaclav Snitil in 1954 and it was the first composition by Feld to appear in print. The present edition does not introduce any substantial changes as the composer only added metronome marks. Sonatina is very popular with many violin duets and, as it is a technically rewarding piece, it is often a compulsory piece at competitions for violin duets.
