Die Musik ist wahrlich "agreable", das Material prasentiert sich als eleganter Dialog zwischen Klavier und Violine. In allen drei Sonaten op. 43 ahneln Vanhals Harmoniefolgen und melodische Verlaufe eher denen Schuberts als denen Beethovens. Der erste Satz steht in konventioneller Sonatensatzform und weist einen gewichtigen Durchfuhrungsteil auf. Ein rhythmisches Motiv bestimmt jedes Thema, die belebte harmonische Struktur uberrascht. Der zweite Satz wird von einer sanften klassischen Melodie eroffnet, gefolgt von einem dramatischen Teil mit scharfen Gegenuberstellungen von dolce und forte und einem unerwarteten Ausbruch pianistischer Aktivitat. Im dritten Satz wird ein spielerisches, rondoartiges Thema unterbrochen von einer schroffen, humoristischen chromatischen Linie. Diese beiden Ideen liefern sich wie die gegensatzlichen Charaktere einer Opera buffa einen Wettstreit. Beide Instrumente haben Gelegenheit zu glanzen.
