The composer, Miguel de Lope joined the Royal Chapel as bassoonist player in 1756 and in
1790 he won the first place for this instrument.
The Sonata for bassoon is a work composed for the Bajón opposition to the Royal Chapel in
1791. On the cover is "Sonata de Bajon/ Para la Oposicion de la Tercera Plaza Vacante en la Rl.
Caplla. De S. M./De D. Miguel de Lope/1791./Se executó el dia 9 de febrero".
The original manuscript is composed to be played with bass and unencrypted bass
accompaniment. The author has opted for the option of performing a harmonized
accompaniment to facilitate its interpretation and dissemination in professional and academic
fields. In this way it can be interpreted (its interpretation is proposed) both as a duet (with
bassoon or cello accompaniment) or as a sonata in two movements (with piano or harpsichord
accompaniment).
It presents a certain technical difficulty and shows a musical and aesthetic interest similar to
the European classicism of its time.
