Hildegard has truly uncovered a gem in publishing this lovely sonata for cello and piano, written in the 19th century by German composer and concert pianist Luise Adolpha LeBeau. At the time of its composition, this sonata was largely overlooked due to prejudices against female composers. Sonate, Op. 17 is written in formal classical style, but gives way to soaring, romantic impulses and stark key changes, supported by a driving piano accompaniment. The piano accompaniment is a reprint of the impressively accurate 1878 edition, and the cello part is newly engraved and drawn from the piano score, with discrepancies reconciled by the editor. Not clear.
A beautiful piece of music.The cello part is well produced but the print of the piano part is small and looks a bit messy making it difficult to read.
