La Montanari has a five movement plan with a 'double' finale: a finale of normal length is followed by a miniature second finale, like coffee following a dessert. The model for this arrangement may have been the Giga Gavotta sequence that occurs quite often in chamber sonatas. In the preface of his Idee per camera Valentini tells performers that if they find a work too difficult or too long they may reduce the number of fast movement to two. This is probably the first ever critical edition of a Valentini violin sonata to be placed in public circulation.
