Der auf Sylt geborene und in Marburg verstorbene Gustav Jenner komponierte drei Violinsonaten, darunter diese 1893 komponierte Sonate in B-Dur. Jenner wurde 1888 Schuler Johannes Brahms' und ubernahm viel von dessen Stilistik in seinen Kompositionen. Sein Oeuvre konzentriert sich auf die Gattung Lied und Kammermusik. 1895 bis zu seinem Tod wirkte er in Marburg als Dirigent und Professor und pragte das kulturelle Leben der Stadt nachhaltig.
