mistakes and editorialized
I want to like this edition, coming from a feminist publishing company with good aims. However, I am frustrated by two elements here. First and foremost, there are a number of big errors: incorrect pitches and a slew of incorrect articulations. The second is more personal, but I was looking for as close to an urtext edition as I could find. The included violin part is only available with a number of editorial suggestions: in addition to bowings and fingerings, there are suggestions of tempo manipulations. Unfortunately, these elements work to obscure the composer's intentions, since they are just one static interpretation of the work. Particularly with a less-frequently-performed work, this is potentially damaging, since it makes it more challenging to interpret the composer's piece, since the editors suggestions are printed directly into the part, leaving less room to include my own markings. The edition available on IMSLP is more accurate, cleaner, and lacks editorial additions.
