Leclair, einer der bedeutendsten französischen Komponisten und Violinisten des 18. Jahrhunderts, hinterließ vier Hefte mit je 12 Sonaten für Violine und Basso continuo. Das letzte Heft (1738) enthält zwei Sonaten, eine in G-Dur, die andere in e-Moll, die auch mit der Querflöte gespielt werden können und nun einzeln für diese Besetzung veröffentlicht wurden. Leclair setzt in seinen Werken die große Tradition der französischen Clavecinisten fort, bleibt aber formal der Barock-Suite treu, obwohl Ansätze zu einer Erweiterung des Rahmens unverkennbar sind.
