Film composer James Horner teamed up with songwriting duo Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil to write the tune. Horner and Mann composed the music, while Weil wrote the lyrics. The song won two Grammy awards at the 1988 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Song Written specifically for a Motion Picture or Television.
