This 2018 Keyboard Contest Entry written with E as a starting tone is a little different from a lot of early piano repertoire, but the simplicity in the left hand ostinato, and some guided fingering shifts in the right hand should make this accessible to a first year student who loves the song. If they have a guitar playing friend, open E is where the friend will start and I wanted to ensure that a guitar/piano collaboration would work smoothly. I will be posting a tab guitar version soon. The syncopated unison rhythm in the opening measures is notated "lyric" style with the correct counting. A few notes throughout that are not usually introduced in first year piano are engraved as alpha notes. Producing music for a beginning player that is not too difficult, is fun to play, but not so watered down it doesn't sound good is my goal.
