Though the song Singin’ in the Rain first appeared in an early American sound film in 1929, its popularity nowadays is largely attributed to the unforgettable scene from the 1952 film of the same name, with Gene Kelly gleefully singing and dancing through the streets of Hollywood in the pouring rain and getting soaked to the skin. The swinging charm of the song’s melody, also now a popular jazz standard, has now successfully been encapsulated in Anthony Gröger’s new arrangement for string quartet.

Het lied Singin’ in the Rain was in het jaar 1929 voor het eerst te horen in een vroege Amerikaanse geluidsfilm: tegenwoordig is het nummer echter vooral beroemd vanwege de onvergetelijke scène uit de latere film (uitgebracht in 1952) waarin acteur Gene Kelly het lied in de stromende regen vrolijk dansend door de straten ten gehore brengt en geheel doorweekt raakt. De swingende charme van de melodie, die ook een populaire jazzstandard is geworden, komt in dit fraaie arrangement van Anthony Gröger uitstekend tot haar recht.

Das Lied Singin’ in the Rain war erstmalig 1929 in einem frühen US-amerikanischen Tonfilm zu hören: seine heutige Berühmtheit erlangte es vor allem aufgrund einer unvergesslichen Szene aus dem späteren Musicalfilm dieses Namens: Der Schauspieler Gene Kelly singt es vergnügt vor sich hin, während er im strömenden Regen durch die Straßen tanzt und bis auf die Haut nass wird. Den swingenden Charme dieser Melodie, die auch zum beliebten Jazzstandard wurde, hat nun Anthony Gröger in seiner Bearbeitung für Streichquartett wirkungsvoll eingefangen.

La chanson Singin’ in the Rain fut enregistrée pour la première fois en 1929, dans l’un des premiers films parlant américains. Cependant, sa popularité actuelle lui vient avant tout d’une scène inoubliable de la comédie musicale du même nom, plus tardive : le comédien Gene Kelly la chante gaiement en dansant dans les rues alors qu’une pluie battante le trempe des pieds la tête. Le swing de cette mélodie charmante devenue l’un des standards de jazz les plus populaires a été saisi avec talent par Anthony Kröger dans son adaptation pour quatuor cordes.
