At the end, there is an a cappella section for a solo trio accompanied by the rest of the choir doing a simple rhythmic figure based on the previous piano part. One of the members of The Everyvoice Women's choir, in the UK, brought it to my attention and they will perform it in July. It sounds really lovely.
As an American folk balled with origins possibly from the UK, it is one of those songs that sounds quite cheery but what lies beneath is a sad tale. The female narrator spurns a potential suitor, following her mother's warning to avoid the advances of men so her daughter can avoid the heart break she herself had endured.
