Beginning at a hushed pianissimo, the dynamics grow to a glorious fortissimo at the close of the third verse. This setting features the sopranos in unison on the first verse. Three-part women sing the second and third with minimal divisi into four-part harmony. After the climax, the work diminishes to the quiet solemnity heard at the beginning.
