A typical parlor song the late 1800's this song was "manufactured" in Tin Pan Alley. It features a story of a man who mistreated his wife, realized his mistake and wants her back:) . It has appeared in virtually every pop genre from 1900 to the present: dixieland, barbershop, country, folk, etc.,. Here, one verse and the refrain is presented for those pianists wishing to sing while they play the piano solo (which of course can stand on it's own without singing).
