Steinberg (A0.870377).This work was originally written for violin and orchestra by Tchaikovsky in 1875. The Hungarian violinist Leopold Auer had been professor of violin at the Imperial Conservatory in St Petersburg while Tchaikovsky was a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. Both met at a reception that year and Tchaikovsky quickly wrote this work as a dedication to Auer. During a later fallout with Auer, Tchaikovsky tried to remove the dedication but too late, it was already in print. This work has been recorded many times with either orchestra or piano. It is presented here, for the first time, in a setting for Concert Band. An unusual arrangement in that pieces for Concert Band and Violin are rare, this makes a nice addition to any concert setting bringing an unusual work of Tchaikovsky’s to wind players. 2016 Arrangement New Release.
