This work was composed for an art festival at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in 1985, and in 1986 was awarded an excellence prize from the Composition Contest for Saxophone organized by the Japan Saxophonist Association, Harmo Saxophone Ensemble performing. It is now widely performed at home and abroad.
The piece consists of three suites, each established in Eb with free, tonal-style sounds. It has harmonic patterns and rhythms from jazz, and is lively and enjoyable for performers to play. These études for saxophone quartet each have a theme; the first has light-feeling rhythm, the second has a gentle melody and harmony, and the third contrasts various elements.
