Song no 5 from Leon Gray's powerful new solo cantata, 'Marionette' about love, betrayal, pain, anger, growth and restitution. The protagonist in 'Resilience' is academic in their estimation of an ended relationship, and the way it has changed them.  There is commentary on the kindness of people saying positive statements about cheering-up, but the observation that kind words are generally empty; the nature of true resilience is not simply getting-up in the morning or watching an inspiring sunrise, but knowing yourself well enough to make good decisions and facing new situations with both wisdom, and a sense of adventure. 

Written in a style that fuses contemporary classical, musical theatre and pop ballad styles, this movement has been written to allow the performer to express dignified power, happiness in wisdom and reflective questioning. Set to a singable, appealing, tonality with a contemporary edge; a thoughtful and multi-layered piece with a subtle rhythmic drive.
