The song was improvised with a few edits made afterwards. Some of the repeat sections were added afterwards too. This is a great song to help learn how to improvise. It would be great for teaching students improvisation. After learning and being able to perform the song, it would be great to then attempt your own improvisation by restricting yourself to a key and creating music. Once the song is learned, you could try playing it rubato and changing the accents on some of the notes. This most important thing is to have fun and have as much love for music as you can find.
