Franz Danzi (*1763 in Mannheim, †1826 in Karlsruhe) gehört zu den wichtigsten deutschen Komponisten zwischen Klassik und Romantik. Als außerordentlich gebildeter Theaterkapellmeister nahm er großen Einfluss auf das Schaffen Carl Maria von Webers und setzte sich für dessen Werke ein. Das vorliegende Quartett für Flöte und Streichtrio ist ein vorzügliches Beispiel für Danzis Stil: frisch, lebendig und virtuos in den Ecksätzen, mit harmonischen Überraschungen im Menuett und im langsamen Satz fast volkstümlich im Ton.
