Il Trittico
This was a very interesting edition. I contained most all the music, but didn't contain the alternate aria that is sung by the baritone in Il Tabarro. I decided to actually follow the score with the recording I have. All of the operas are interesting. Suor Angelica is actually the most beautiful, though often seen as the lesser work of the three. However, Gianni Schicchi, though the most often performed, really to me was the worst of the lot. The famous "O mio Babbino Caro" comes out of nowhere. There is nothing but a mass of noise and screeching and suddenly she sings this to her father, then everything returns to the family members screeching about everything. It wasn't even slightly funny. By the way, that is the only melodic moment in the entire opera. I have seen this opera on stage and found it tiresome and dull. Those same types of empty shenanegans occur in La Boheme as well, but are less boring. However, this edition is very easy to read, very well produced, and worth the money, even if the actual operas are not all that great.
