Nusch-Nuschi (the Mumble Wumble) is one of three one-act operas with provocative librettos by the young Hindemith which caused outrage; the other two are "Saint Susanna" and "The murderer who brings hope to women". In the case of "Nusch-Nuschi", further indignation was caused by the inclusion at a suggestive point of a quotation from Wagner's "Tristan". In this volume of the complete works the composition is now available for purchase for the first time.
