These obbligatos are composed for inclusion in a performance of their respective hymn tunes. However, they also may be performed as a duet with the hymn tune notated below them.

Obbligatos for four popular hymn tunes are provided, three of which are for the Christmas season:

  • Mendelssohn (“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”)
  • Antioch (“Joy to the World”)
  • Adeste fideles (“O Come, All Ye Faithful”)
The fourth tune is appropriate for five seasons/occasions: 
  • Truro (“Lift Up Your Heads” for Advent or Epiphany or Ascension)
  • Truro (“Ride On, Ride On in Majesty” for Palm Sunday)
  • Truro (“Christ is Arisen” for Easter)
This piece is sold as a two-line score, with the flute/violin obbligatos on the top line and the hymn melody on the second. Each hymn is provided in multiple keys to accommodate the most common transpositions.
