Ludger Vollmer's Two Hymns for Saxophone Quartet are based on a commissioned composition that was created for the 20th anniversary of reunification. For this occasion, Vollmer composed a string quartet for the city of Jena under the title ... and turned towards the future, combining the motifs of both historical German national anthems. Lovingly and cheerfully, the composer approached the topic. The melodic extract of the hymns consists of three mirrored tones - an excellent toy for a composer.
