This composition describes a landscape in the Upper Austrian region of Mühlviertel. This area was once besieged by the Celts, who spread fear and terror among the inhabitants, however the people opposed the enemy with patience and courage. Their uncompromising love of life demonstrated how unyielding they were and finally, the Celts had to withdraw from Mühlviertel. The region is still one of the most beautiful landscapes in Austria, and the people who live there are proof that tradition and progress are not necessarily contradictory. Green Hills Fantasy gives you a chance to hear this fantastic landscape immortalised in a wonderful piece for Concert Band.
Green Hills Fantasy erzählt von der grünen, hügeligen Landschaft im oberösterreichischen Mühlviertel, von der bewegten Geschichte zur Zeit der keltischen Belagerung und vom Mut und der unbeirrbaren Lebensfreude der dort ansässigen Bevölkerung. Das Mühlviertel zählt auch heute noch zu den schönsten Gegenden Österreichs, was Thomas Doss in seiner musikalischen Beschreibung sehr überzeugend zum Ausdruck bringt.
La région du Mühlviertel en Autriche fut jadis assiégée par des hordes de Celtes qui semèrent la terreur et l’épouvante dans la population. Mais les villageois luttèrent contre l’ennemi avec courage et persévérance si bien que les Celtes finirent par se retirer de la région. Le Mühlviertel n’a rien perdu de son attrait ; il compte toujours parmi les plus beaux paysages d’Autriche. Sa population constitue une synthèse cohérente du progrès et de la tradition.
La regione austriaca di Mühlviertel fu assediata dai Celti che seminarono terrore nella popolazione. Ma gli abitanti lottarono contro il nemico con coraggio e determinazione costringendo gli invasori a ritirarsi. La musica di Thomas Doss riflette la bellezza del paesaggio di questa regione austriaca.
