Apparently Billy Joel’s muses when he wrote Uptown Girl were the model, Elle MacPherson, and then his later wife, model Christie Brinkley. With this catchy pop song about a simple guy who loves a rich girl from downtown, Joel wanted to encourage the ugly guy to win the heart of the most beautiful woman. In Billy Joel’s case, his great talent in writing hit songs was obviously also a factor! And now Stefan Schwalgin has arranged this chart-topper into a lively and compelling performance piece.

Misschien dacht Billy Joel aan het fotomodel MacPherson of aan zijn latere echtgenote en eveneens model Christie Brinkley bij het schrijven van zijn wereldberoemde song Uptown Girl. Het liedje gaat over een jongeman van eenvoudige afkomst die verliefd wordt op een meisje uit de betere buurt, ook wel ‘uptown’ genoemd. Billy Joel wilde met deze song een statement maken: de liefde overwint alles!

Angeblich dachte Billy Joel beim Schreiben von Uptown Girl an das Model Elle MacPherson und an seine spätere Frau, das Model Christie Brinkley. Mit dem eingängigen Popsong über einen einfachen Kerl, der ein reiches Mädchen aus der Oberstadt“ liebt, wollte Joel nach eigener Aussage jedem hässlichen Kerl Mut machen, die schönsten Frauen zu erobern. In Billy Joels Fall überzeugte sicherlich auch das große Talent, geniale Songs zu schreiben, wie Uptown Girl, das Stefan Schwalgin nun in einen flotten, überzeugenden Blasorchestertitel verwandelte.

Il semblerait que Billy Joel, en composant la chanson Uptown Girl, ait été inspiré pars deux grands top modèles, dont l’une Christie Brinkley, devait devenir plus tard son épouse. Avec la chanson pop obstinément accrocheuse d’un gars simple qui aime une «_x001C_fille des quartiers riches», Billy Joel voulait, avec ses mots lui, faire savoir qu’un homme infortuné pouvait aussi conquérir les plus belles femmes. Stefan Schwalgin nous livre une version fort convaincante de cette belle histoire.

Il testo di Uptown Girl racconta la storia di un uomo di umili origini e dei suoi tentativi di corteggiare una “ragazza dei quartieri alti”, una “uptown girl”. L’ispirazione per il brano fu data a Joel dalla relazione con la celebre modella Christie Brinkley che sarebbe in seguito divenuta sua moglie. L’arrangiamento molto riuscito di questa orecchiabile canzone porta la firma di Stefan Schwalgin.
