Polish academic Nicolaus Copernicus was a genius, excelling in the fields of mathematics, physics, law and astronomy. He is most remembered for his then revolutionary model of the solar system. Going against the grain, he put forward the idea that the sun, and not the earth, was the focal point of our solar system and all the planets revolve around it. Despite the initial uproar his ideas caused, he revolutionised science during the 15th century. His influence can still be felt today and despite being separated by many centuries, Copernicus inspired composer Johan Nijs to write this exciting piece for concert band.

De Poolse Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) was wiskundige, arts, jurist en astronoom van grote betekenis. Vooral door zijn revolutionaire ideeën over het zonnestelsel werd hij bekend. Hij ontdekte dat de zon het middelpunt is van hetzonnestelsel en dat de planeten om de zon heen draaien. Dit in tegenstelling tot de tot dan toe gebruikelijke aanname dat de aarde het middelpunt van het universum was. Het gedachtegoed van Copernicus veroorzaakte een ware revolutiein de wetenschappelijke wereld van de vijftiende eeuw. Het be nvloedde de kijk op de wereld volledig. Ook Johan Nijs liet zich inspireren door deze bijzondere figuur en schreef een spannend en eigentijds werk voor blaasorket.

Der polnische Domherr Nikolaus Kopernikus war ein bedeutender Mathematiker, Physiker, Jurist und Astronom und ist der Nachwelt besonders durch sein damals revolutionäres Bild unseres Sonnensystems in Erinnerung geblieben: Er entdeckte, dass die Sonne im Mittelpunkt des Systems steht und die Planeten um sie herum kreisen- im Gegensatz zum bis dato gültigen Glauben, die Erde sei der Mittelpunkt des Universums. Kopernikus' Erkenntnisse revolutionierten die Wissenschaft des 15. Jahrhunderts und beeinflussten damit auch die moderne Sicht auf die Welt- und inspirierten den Komponisten Johan Hijs zu diesem spannenden, modernen Blasorchesterwerk!

Nicolas Copernic est devenu particulièrement célèbre en déclarant que le soleil était au centre du système et que les planètes tournaient autour du soleil. Copernic a également estimé que toutes les étoiles se trouvaient bien au-del des planètes. Les répercussions provoquées par l’annonce de cette théorie bouleversèrent le monde scientifique du XVe siècle, et par conséquent notre vision actuelle du monde. C’est en s’inspirant de la vie et de l‘oeuvre du savant que Johan Nijs a composé cette pièce étoilée.

Niccolò Copernico (1473 - 1543), fu un astronomo e cosmologo polacco noto per la teoria astronomica detta teoria eliocentrica“, in base alla quale il sole è immobile al centro dell’universo e la terra, ruotando quotidianamente sul suo asse, gira nell’arco dell’anno attorno al Sole. La sua concezione dell’universo era allora in totale contraddizione con le convinzioni dell’epoca secondo le quali la terra era l’elemento centrale dell’universo. Le ripercussioni provocate dall’annuncio di questa nuova teoria sconvolsero il mondo scientifico del XV secolo e di conseguenza la visione attuale del mondo. La vita e l’opera di questo grande astronomo hanno ispirato Johan Nijsnella composizione di questo brano.
