Bert Appermont composed Song for Sakiko during a stay in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Tokyo. Sakiko roughly translated means flower child and is associated with a dreamy, poetic atmosphere. Appermont used these associations as a starting point while composing. Song for Sakiko starts with a very lyrical theme based on a minor third that forms the basis for the entire work. A second theme builds up to the grand finale, which repeats the theme, but in a major key and the music slowly fades away, like ripples on a pond, as both themes can be heard dissipating into nothingness.

Het was tijdens zijn verblijf in de wereldstad Tokyo dat de componist inspiratie kreeg voor het schrijven van dit werk. Sakiko betekent 'bloesemkind' en roept een dromerige, poetische sfeer op. Deze sfeer is het die de componist muzikaalwil verbeelden. Song for Sakiko begint met een zangerig thema. Deze is gebaseerd op een kleine terts die de basis vormt van het werk. Een tweede thema leidt naar een grootse tutti. Hier wordt het beginthema in gewijzigdevorm in majeur gespeeld. Daarna deint de muziek uit terwijl beide thema's nog even vaag weerklinken.

Dieses Werk schrieb Bert Appermont wahrend eines Aufenthalts in der Weltstadt Tokio. Sakiko bedeutet soviel wie Blumenkind und wird mit einer vertraumten, poetischen Stimmung assoziiert, die der Komponist in seiner Musik wiederzugeben versuchte. Song for Sakiko beginnt mit einem sangerischen Thema, das auf einer kleinen Terz basiert, welche die Grundlage des gesamten Werkes bildet. Ein zweites Thema fuhrt zu einem grossen Tutti, wobei das Anfangsthema in veranderter Form in Dur gespielt wird. Danach klingt die Musik in Wellen langsam aus, wahrend beide Themen noch kurz vage widerhallen.

Bert Appermont ecrivit cette piece lors d'un sejour dans la ville cosmopolite de Tokyo. <> (qui signifie Fleur d'enfant) est une oeuvre poetique, empreinte de reverie et de lyrisme. Song for Sakiko commence par un theme doux, construit a partir d'une tierce mineure qui sera mise en valeur tout au long du morceau. Un deuxieme motif conduit a un tutti de l'ensemble de l'orchestre, alors que le premier theme est repris en mode majeur. Puis, les deux themes s'estompent progressivement, tel le mouvement oscillatoire des vagues.
