Published by Drake Mabry Productions (S0.17565).Herein are a set of three works unrelated to each otherexcept by the media of solo piano and the intention of dedication.Fanfare for Piano was written in 1990 to commemorate the acquisition of a newgrand piano for the Music Department of San Diego Mesa College, where thecomposer teaches. It is dedicated to Dr. Irv King who managed the requisition. Inthis piece the piano's rich sonic capabilities are utilized to evoke differentinstruments and instrumental choirs such as the opening's call to play "LikeTrumpets!" and the succeeding responses that are intended to evoke "StringChoir", "Gentle Winds", and "Deep Brass".Meditation, written in 2002, is dedicated to Professor Emeritus Will Ogdon fromthe University of California, San Diego, on the occasion of his 82nd birthday in2003 and published in A Festschrift for Will Ogdon, UCSD Press, La Jolla,California. A reflective and serenely calm piece, it unfolds in a very gradual wayto sustained resonant depths. Will passed away in October, 2013.Happy Dance, the earliest piece in this set (1989) and most rambunctious, waswritten for the composer's dear friend, fellow-student-in-the-trenches-of-UCSDand college roommate Victor P. Zupanc who now currently resides with hislovely family in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Victor is Musical Director of theChildren's Theater Company of Minneapolis.
