The work uses an English language translation of a beautiful text by the Slovak hymnodist Juraj Tranovsky (1592-1637) as translated by Jaroslav J. Vajda. The musical setting is reminiscent of the Czech (or Bohemian) style of seasonal carols. The work is suitable for adult or youth choirs. Accompaniment can also be performed on harmonium or organ.
