Alternatim is a practice dating from the early Christian church that employs two or more performing groups or contrasting styles of composition in the presentation of a liturgical text. In these two Kyrie Eleison settings, plainchant is contrasted with polyphony. Richard Proulx has edited these liturgically useful settings that seamlessly combine a familiar chant dialogue for cantor and assembly with choral extensions from two Renaissance Masses, Missa L.
