The seven-movement suite for brass band Hymn of the Highlands was commissioned by David King and the Yorkshire Building Society Band for first performance at the 2002 European Brass Band Championships Gala Concert in Brussels.David King's imaginative programming had already led to the writing of three such 'concept' pieces for brass band - Cry of the Celts, Voice of the Vikings and Windows of the World. The idea was to produce an extended and themed piece, which can act as a half concert to feature a band's soloists. One of the solo movements is Flowerdale, written for arguably the greatest soprano cornet player of all time, the legendary PeterRoberts.This solo is also available with brass band accompaniment, edition no. AMP 049.
De zevendelige suite voor brassband Hymn of the Highlands werd geschreven in opdracht van David King en de Yorkshire Building Society Band. De premiere vond in 2002 plaats tijdens het galaconcert van de Europese Brassband Kampioenschappen in Brussel.David Kings vindingrijke programmering had al eerder geleid tot het schrijven van drie werken met een dergelijk 'concept' voor brassband: Cry of the Celts, Voice of the Vikings en Windows of the World. Het idee was om een uitgebreid en thematisch werk te maken dat geschikt is om gedurende de helft van een concert solisten van de band voor het voetlicht te laten komen.Een van de solistische delen isFlowerdale, geschreven voor de legendarische Peter Roberts, zonder twijfel de beste es-cornettist aller tijden. Deze solo is ook leverbaar met brassbandbegeleiding (editienummer AMP 049).
Einer der Solosatze der siebensatzigen Suite Hymn of the Highlands von Philip Sparke ist Flowerdale, der nun auch in einer Ausgabe fur Piccolotrompete oder Soprancornet mit Klavierbegleitung vorliegt (ebenfalls erhaltlich mit Brass-Band-Begleitung).
Hymn of the Highlands (Hymne des Highlands) est une œuvre de commande pour le Yorkshire Building Society Band et son directeur David King. Cette suite en sept mouvements a ete donnee en creation mondiale par la formation dedicataire a l'occasion du Concert de Gala des Championnats d'Europe des Brass Bands 2002 a Bruxelles.David King est un directeur musical tres imaginatif. Sous son impulsion, trois œuvres a programme pour Brass Bands ont deja ete ecrites : Cry of the Celts, Voice of the Vikings et Windows of the World. L'idee etait de composer une piece elargie et thematique, qui peut constituer a elle seule, une partie de concertpermettant de presenter les solistes d'une formation. Le mouvement intitule Flowerdale a ete compose pour celui qui est decrit comme << le plus grand cornettiste soprano de tous les temps >>, le legendaire Peter Roberts.Ce mouvement est egalement disponible dans une version soliste et Brass Band (Ref. : AMP 049).
