Sultan Schahriar, convinced of the unfaithfulness of women, swore to execute each of his wives after the first night.
But the Sultana Shéhérazade saved her life by diverting him with the stories which she told him during a thousand and one nights. The Sultana so roused the Sultan's curiosity with the stories told him, that he continually delayed her execution.
Finally, he renounced his terrible vow altogether. Shéhérazade told the Sultan many amazing stories, blending the
verses of poets with the words of songs, combining fairy tales with adventures.
